TYSA's Recreation Program

With an emphasis on fun and participation, our recreational division is the ideal environment for most kids. This program is the entry point for children who are new to the game. Experienced players who desire a more competitive environment should consider our EFC Academy or Classic programs. In recreation, we use fun games to develop basic skills, such as ball control and dribbling, and to further players' enjoyment of the game. Recreational soccer is coached by volunteers who are equipped and supported by the organization and will receive communications from the program director with important information and weekly practice sessions throughout the season. Our coaches use a curriculum made up of fun and developmentally appropriate practice activities. Fall season runs from mid-September to early November and our spring season runs from early March to May.

TYSA Recreation is focused on fun, learning new skills, and positive character development. Coaches are volunteer parent coaches supported by our TYSA Rec Director with training and resources. For all players 3 - 18 years old.

Ecusta FC Academy is our competitive intermediary program between Recreation and Classic. Players in this program can expect a higher level of soccer skill training, certified coaches, and competition against clubs in surrounding areas. For players 6 - 11 years old.

Ecusta FC Classic is our high level competitive program for players 12 - 18. Players at this level are trained by D-Licensed coaches with a focus on technical skill development and understanding the game.

PreRec

U3 - U6

PreRec focuses on coordination, body awareness, and developing a love for playing with a soccer ball. We follow NCYSA’s Dribbling Across NC training pathway, which emphasizes both physical development, such as hand-eye coordination, spatial awareness, and motor skills, and cognitive growth, including listening, responding, and understanding object characteristics, all through fun, game-based activities.

By building physical awareness while keeping the experience fun and engaging, we help kids grow into their bodies, connect with others through group play, and develop a lifelong love for the game of soccer.

Rec

U8 - U18

TYSA Rec soccer is the pathway accessible to most youth soccer players, learning new skills, and positive character development as teammates, friends, and lifelong leaders. Our goal is to foster a life long love of soccer and build players up as positive community members.

Youth Development Program (YDP)

 dsc8221

U7 - U16

The Youth Development Program is is for players that play rec soccer, but want more time learning the game and mastering skills. YDP offers an additional day of skill-building practice for players already participating in our TYSA Recreation program or playing in other local programs.
YDP players will go to their recreation team practice one day of the week and then come to YDP for a second, skills focused, training each week. Players will also have the opportunity to participate in an optional end of season tournament.

Youth Leadership Program

Ages 14 - 18

TYSA Youth Leadership Program supports youth ages 14-18 in developing job readiness skills through paid leadership roles within our programs.

  • Youth Referees officiate recreation games under the guidance of an adult Referee Assignor and experienced, certified referees. In addition to earning pay and building workplace skills, participants receive support in obtaining their referee certification, opening opportunities to officiate higher-level, better-paying competitive matches.
  • Assistant Coaches work alongside experienced head coaches in the recreation division, gaining hands-on coaching and leadership experience. TYSA also supports youth coaches through NCYSA’s coaching pathway up to the D License, providing scheduling assistance, mentorship, and financial support.
